Structured Query Language or SQL is a standard language which is used to establish a connection with a Relational database system.

With the help of simple SQL statements users can perform the following tasks:

  •       Create new databases, tables and views

  •       Insert records in a database

  •       Update records in a database

  •       Delete records from a database

  •       Retrieve data from a database

Some common relational database management systems that use SQL are:

  •       Oracle

  •       Sybase

  •       Microsoft SQL Server

  •       Access

  •       Ingres

Syntax =   Select * from Employee

The above SQL statement selects all the records (*) from the "Employee" table.

Here * refers to fetching all records. We can use specific names of columns as well instead of *.
